Installed on existing rotary Dairy cattle manure is also fermented at high temperature!

Kusano Farm

The large-scale dryer was ineffective during the winter, but with the heaterless hot air machine, composting can now be done without any issues.

Every winter, the sight of compost would make me feel despondent and gave me a headache

After the raw materials were processed in a rotary fermenter, they were cut back in a blower sedimentation type compost house as a secondary fermentation.
In the past, they had also installed a large drying and processing machine and had invested a large amount of money in manure processing equipment.
Kusano had invested in composting equipment to the point of perfection.
Even so, in the winter, the temperature did not rise at all from the beginning of fermentation, and he was having a hard time.
During periods of bad weather, it was impossible to spread the manure on the fields, and the high moisture content made it impossible to pile it high, so the manure often overflowed the facility.

What encouraged the decision was the site visit

“I was convinced when I saw how a fellow dairyman who had installed heaterless first was doing it.”
He heard that the same dairy farmer had introduced a heaterless system and was fermenting well, so he immediately went to visit the dairy.
There, dairy manure with high moisture content was fermenting at high temperature even in winter, and Kusano immediately decided to install the heaterless system instead of installing other equipment he had already planned.
He decided to install a heaterless hot-air unit connected to the piping of the existing rotary agitator.

High-Temperature Fermentation Now Causes Steam to Emanate from the Entire Fermentation Tank

“In the past, there was no steam coming out of the rotary during winter. Now, with high-temperature fermentation, steam is coming out from the entire fermentation tank.”
Previously, no matter how much I turned the compost, it only became sticky and couldn’t be used as return compost, but now I can stack it high and distribute it to nearby farmers in good condition.
The spacious compost shed had a lot of compost piled up, but there was no noticeable smell at all.
Previously, we purchased sawdust from seven large dump trucks, but after introducing the heaterless system, the compost dried faster, reducing the purchase to four trucks, which has also helped cut costs.

Can’t run a business from now on if you don’t take environmental and sanitary considerations into account.

“The heaterless system has a quick startup. If we can achieve such good results with high-moisture dairy cow manure, I believe it will perform well with other materials too. The heaterless system has alleviated the concerns about composting during winter. I’m looking forward to composting from spring.”
Livestock farming is tough but interesting, says Kusano.
For dairy farmers, composting is a crucial issue that significantly affects the cows’ health, feed, and overall management.
He also said, “It is impossible to run a business in this day and age if you do not pay attention to environmental and sanitary aspects, and the issue of livestock manure disposal is a major factor in business management,” and he seems to value his relationships with the community and people around him more than anyone else.
Kusano has visited various places to study management practices that suit him.
Composting doesn’t end with just introducing machinery.
He emphasized the importance of having a mindset to manage it properly oneself.
Going forward, MIRAIE will fully support you not only with maintenance but in every possible way.

About Customer

Kusano Farm

Kusano Farm is a farm where 100 breeding dairy cows are raised on a mountaintop with a great view of terraced fields in the northern part of Nagasaki Prefecture.
The altitude is high, and in winter, the area is subject to cold winds and sometimes below freezing temperatures. The representative is Mr. Yoshiteru Kusano, who runs the farm with his daughter, Aiko. Aiko is a new farmer after graduating from a university specializing in agriculture, and is now in her 10th year of farming.
We asked him how he was able to introduce the heater-less system so quickly, from inquiry to installation in only about two months.
