Success in Reducing Sawdust with the “Heaterless Hot Air Machine” for Compost Recycling! (Client: Y Farm)
This case involves addressing the issue of compost stagnation during winter when temperatures drop below freezing.
- Products Introduced
- Heaterless Hot Air Machine
- Client and Location
- Kumamoto Prefecture / Y Farm
- Processed Material
- Animal manure (from 120 dairy cows)
- Issue
- During winter, temperatures drop below freezing, causing large amounts of compost to stagnate and making processing difficult.
Overview of Composting at Y Farm
Y Farm raises 120 dairy cows at an elevation of 600 meters above sea level in a harsh environment of -10 degrees Celsius in winter.
Dairy cattle manure has a high moisture content, so it takes time for the compost to ferment.
Using a larger amount of supplementary materials or frequently turning the compost makes it challenging to achieve complete fermentation, and in this facility, the temperature dropping below freezing in winter leads to a significant backlog of compost, causing processing issues.

Since the existing blower could be used, the cost and labor for installing a heaterless system were also reduced.
The cost of saw dust, which is used as a secondary material, has been rising in recent years, and this has had a significant impact on the business.
Now, the finished compost can be reused for bedding, which saves money and helps to maintain cow hygiene.
